Hot Cocktails – Sage Gin Toddy

I know a warm Gin Cocktail sounds odd, and in truth, I was slightly nervous about this too. BUT WOW! This Sage Gin Toddy is nothing short of a miracle. This delicious creation is something I will be sharing more of this holiday, and it’s delicate, warming nature is one of the many reasons I love it so much. Want to make it yourself, find the recipe below!

Building a Gin Toddy

I know we all think about Whisky for a Toddy, but get that out of your head, it’s Gin’s time to shine! When choosing a Gin, you do have a bit of flexibility, but may I suggest choosing a London Dry-Style Gin. You do want the Juniper flavours to be pronounced, it’s balanced, bright and fairly “light-to-medium” in body. There’s a ton of great Gin’s out there, so you do have options. But may I present one of my favourites at the moment and that’s Tobermory Gin. You can NOT go wrong with this bottle. It’s got everything I listed above, plus a subtle Sage note that lead me to create this Gin Toddy with Sage. This should 100% be on your home bar.

Experimenting with Herbs and Spices

When you think about the traditional toddy, it’s supposed to be Boiled Water with Whisky. People will add a cinnamon, or clove, maybe a dash of sugar, but don’t be afraid to experiment! With Gin being as bright as it is, it felt fitting to add in a lemon wheel to the mix. Plus, this toddy went a long way once I steeped it with a White Tea. You want to go light, delicate flavours for a Tea. Do not pull out the Black, Oolongs, or even Green tea overwhelm. Something light, even a chamomile would go great here!

Clove & Crown

This is my take on a Gin Toddy using a beautiful Gin from Tobermory, which I elevate with a touch of Sage.
