I’m on a mission to work with more spirits I’m less comfortable with. Sake isn’t the typical spirit I gravitate to, but I’m really working hard to change that and other lesser used spirits. This is the thing, I know Sake is well consumed out East, which tells me I just need to experiment more. Well that’s exactly what I did, coming up with a basic version to this Blueberry Sake Cocktail and something for my sophisticated crowd!
So the sake I’ll be featuring is part of Gekkeikan line up and that’s there Blueberry Sake. Psst, it’s also NOW available at the LCBO! I kept the overall concept simple, combining Sake, Blueberry with almonds, lime and mint. This is one of those cocktails where ice plays a big role. The almond is showcased in the orgeat syrup, and the rest is just the rest! Here’s how to build it:
Tropical Blueberry Sake Sunshine
We've got a bright and flavourful cocktail that's low in alcohol! Mixed with Gekkeikan's Blueberry Sake, Lime Juice, Orgeat and all the mint necessary!
– Difficulty: Intermediate
Ingredients
- 3 sprigs Mint
- 2 oz Gekkeikan's Blueberry Sake
- 1 oz Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice
- 3/4 oz Orgeat Syrup
Instructions
In a shaker, muddle lightly two sprigs of mint and add the rest of the ingredients.
Add a handful of small (or cracked ice cubes). Give this a quick shake.
Dump contents into your glass and fill with Crushed Ice. Top with remaining Mint Sprig.
BUT WAIT, there’s more…
I knew I wanted to show a little versatility with Sake. One where the cocktail is held strong as it being the only spirit. Now this second one I’m featuring is not for the light at heart. This would be my complicated version with a bright Cachaca and some Prosecco to top.
I love combining Sake and Cachaca lately. They marry well together when appropriately measured. Plus you need some decent Cachaca to really make this work. So only do this if you trust your bar, the products you have, and of course trust me!
Cachaca Sake Blueberry Delight
We're providing an upgraded version to the simple Tropical Blueberry Sake Sunshine cocktail, with the addition of Cachaca and Prosecco! It isn't more difficult, you just have to make sure you've got some quality spirits around to make this work.

What else can you mix Sake with? Honestly, you’re only limited by your imagination! I love pairing it with other delicate spirits, but it works wonderfully with Brandy, Japanese Whisky and so much more! For more Sake inspiration, check out the link here.
