Hot Cocktails – Boozy London Fog

This cocktail is selfishly for me. I have always loved a London Fog, and I wanted to experiment and see which spirit would work best to create the ultimate London Fog! I’m so happy with this creation and hope you love this Boozy London Fog cocktail made with Diplomatico Rum.

Choosing Your Rum for a Boozy London Fog

Rum is one of those spirits that can work in so many varying scenarios. In the summer, it came in use in a Boozy Cereal Rum Ice Cream recipe (trust me, it sounds as good as it sounds!). It’s one of my favourite spirits to split the base and mix with Whisk(e)y. It’s a natural in baking and desserts. But CHOOSING the right Rum is probably the most important thing to get right.

Rum is so diverse as a category. So if you think substituting your Jamaican Rum, or something from Bacardi is going to work here, it won’t. Let’s talk about why I chose DIPLOMATICO RUM. With it being a Spanish-Style Rum, it’s a Rum that I think has the best of both worlds. It provides a palate that’s medium in bodied, but heavy in spice. This particular one comes with a ton of the warming spices, that perfectly match this Boozy London Fog. We have Vanilla, Caramel, Dark Chocolate and a ton of Dried Fruit. All this I knew would compliment the Cream and Earl Gray components of this cocktail.

You could technically go with a Spiced Rum if you wanted. The thing is that with the Earl Grey and Licor 43 being used, there’s already enough flavours going on that this is a great base. Anything Spanish-Style, preferably Aged is the best route, and you can’t go wrong with Diplomatico Rum for this Boozy London Fog.

Why Licor 43?

London Fogs are traditionally made with a Vanilla Syrup. Whenever I order it myself (without the booze), I always ask for less Vanilla, because I can find it to be overwhelming. Plus, I’ve never been a fan of those jugs of Syrup, worried of all the artificial ingredients and flavours added. I may be a hypocrite for using Licor 43, but when it comes to a boozy offering that provides that Vanilla flavour, Licor 43 is my best friend. I even use it in my baking whenever Vanilla Extract is involved. It provides body, vanilla and texture to any cocktail or baking creations. Plus the Licor 43 acts as a sweetener to this cocktail, so it’s a win overall.

Substitute Options: Vanilla Syrup (homemade or bought), Drambuie (but you’ll miss a lot of the Vanilla notes), or maybe add an drop of extract in the milk mixture.

Tea & Treasure

London Fogs is my Love Language. So why not create a boozy version with Rum?! I may be more in love.
