I have always had a serious love for travelling, and wherever I go is typically 99.9% dictated by food and drinks. But the more I travel abroad, the more I appreciate and love Canada as my home. With that said, I think my next big trip needs to include a coast to coast journey of this beautiful country. Anyone want to sponsor me?
Anyway this year was the big 150! Celebrating 150 years of Independence and I had to show my appreciation the only way I knew how, which is creating a Canadian inspired cocktail (or two) using our abundant resources. I’ve also included a fun Canada Day special Jello Shot that I’m sure would please the kid in all of us.
The Canadian OG

Difficulty: Intermediate

- 2 oz Canadian Club 100% Rye
- 1/2 oz Aperol
- 1/4 oz Roasted Strawberry Puree

Instructions
Combine all the ingredients (except lemon) above in a mixing glass and stir until fairly chilled
Zest a double rocks glass with lemon, place ice inside the glass and strain
Recipe Notes
If you don't have a mixing glass or just simply don't want the mess, combine all the ingredients in a double rocks glass before adding ice. Be sure that the ingredients (in particular the maple syrup) are well combined so you don't have an overly sweet beverage by the end of the glass. Enjoy!

- 1/3 cup Raspberries muddled with a bit of water
- 1/2 cup Granulated White Sugar
- 2 tbsp Lemon Juice Fresh
- 2 tbsp Unflavoured Gelatin
White Portion
- 1/3 cup Sweetened Condensed Milk
- 1/3 cup Milk 2%
- 1 tbsp Unflavoured Gelatin
- 1/4 tbsp Vanilla Extract
Instructions
Red Portion
In a small saucer combine sugar, lemon juice, and raspberry water from the "Red Portion" ingredient list
Distribute the gelatin on top of mixture and let it sit for 10 minutes before putting it on the stove (it will slightly thicken)
Bring the saucer to a boil, making sure that the gelatin is well incorporated, remove from heat and mix in the rye
Pour half of the recipe into 12 shot glass. Leave the other half for the third layer.
Place in fridge for 1 hour, leaving the other half at room temperature
White Portion
In another small saucer combine the condensed milk, 2% milk and vanilla
Distribute the gelatin on top of the mixture and let it sit for 10 minutes before putting it on the stove (it will slightly thicken)
Bring the saucer to a boil, making sure that the gelatin is well incorporated, remove from heat
Take the shots from the fridge and pour the white portion on top of the cooled red shots
Let this sit in the fridge for another hour before layering the remaining red portioned jello to complete the Canadian Flag
Recipe Notes
To get the jello easily removed from its container, make sure to lightly oil the inside of the surface before pouring the product in.
